Junior School

welcome to our junior school

A St Edmund’s Junior School education involves more than learning facts and figures. Our proud tradition of liberal education is about developing the whole person – each boy’s character as well as his intellectual ability.

In Years 5 and 6, Junior School students explore a diverse range of opportunities that lay the foundation for success in their middle and senior years. Each student is paired with a “Big Brother” – an older mentor who joins them for special activities and serves as a positive role model.

Located within the College’s main campus, our vibrant Junior School classrooms and social spaces are purpose-built for adolescent boys. Lessons are crafted by teachers committed to making school an engaging and enriching place to learn, play and grow.

The Junior School provides a holistic education for boys in Years 5 and 6, delivered within a modern, self-contained learning precinct.

Classrooms are dynamic, open-plan learning environments where co-teaching models are used to deliver all programs. Teachers work collaboratively to foster student confidence, build a strong knowledge base, and develop essential 21st-century skills such as creativity, problem-solving and critical thinking.

Our curriculum includes Religion, English, Mathematics, Science and HASS, led by a team of dedicated educators. Specialist teachers deliver lessons in Health and Physical Education, Drama, Art and Music. Staff work in partnership with parents to support each boy’s academic, personal and spiritual development.

Students are issued with a laptop at the beginning of Year 5. Technology is embedded across the curriculum, with dedicated instruction to develop digital skills. Our online learning platform enhances the student experience by providing access to resources, classroom programs and collaborative learning spaces.

Junior School students and their families are encouraged to participate in a variety of community events that foster connection, celebrate learning, and build an understanding of the Edmund Rice ethos. These opportunities support the development of personal attributes and learning dispositions essential to a well-rounded education. Events include, but are not limited to:

  • Mum’s and Chums, Dad’s and Lad’s and Grandparents Day Activities
  • Parent Educational Evenings
  • Year 6 Graduation

The Four Rs of Respect, Resilience, Reflection and Responsiveness play a vital role in developing our students into young men; strong in character, kind, empathetic and prepared to make a positive impact on the world. In Years 5 and 6, boys attend a 3 day camp where they will engage in activities to further develop their understanding of the ‘4Rs’ beyond the classroom, with an emphasis on health and wellbeing, effective communication and problem solving.
